Basic
Pneumatics You want your props to MOVE !
Face it, the more weight you add to a Halloween Animatronic
prop, the harder it is to move it around! So that's why
will primarily be using compressed air to move our props
around. This information will get you started with what
you need to know and what you need to get to add pnematic
actions to your Halloween Animatronics. Both in the Video
and in the extended documentation that comes with the video,
the information is what you need to know and where to purchase
it!

| To
begin with, we take a look at a Basic Pnuematic System and move
on from there. The Basic Pneumatic System that I use for my
Halloween Animatronic setup s composed of a compressor with
pressure regulator, a water separator, a pneumatic valve and
a pneumatic cylinder. That's not too bad, you essentially have
four components and they are connected together with an air
line. So we stat with the Basics of Halloween Pneumatics and
move on from there. |
| Always
build your framework or mechanisms out of either steel or aluminum,
never PVC. PVC pipe can easily break under repeated pneumatic
stress. You can easily build a prop that will tear itself apart
if the pressure is too high, even if you build it out of aluminum
or steel, but using PVC is setting yourself up for mechanical
failure. So in all the Halloween Pneumatics you will see, they
are all made from either aluminum, steel or a combination of
the two. Purchasing Aluminum for your Halloween Pneumatics is
easy too. Just go to your Local Home Improvement store, they
have a great stock of Aluminum and steel to fit your needs. |

Your props are going to be moving
FAST! Way faster than you've seen before and
they will simply overstress PVC construction. This
simple One Cylinder pneumatic prop can move from one postion
to the other in a blink of an eye! |
| We go over several types of pneumatic valves
in the DVD and in the extended documentation so nothing is left
out. You will know what they do, how to use them and where the
best places are to get them. Links
and vendors are provided. Yes, you can order your Halloween
Pneumatic valves on-line for convienience. |
 |
|
Valves can be used singly, like this one, or they can be
used on a manifold like these. Don't let the manifold
scare you, it's just 4 valves hooked together.
The manifold allows one primary air supply
line to support all the valves on the manifold. This is very
handy when you are controlling several pneumatic cylinders
on one prop because you can centralize your control circuit
and valves while keeping your feeder airlines short.

So once we get the basics of Halloween Pneumatics down, Let's
move on to how to use Relays to activate the pneumatic valves
or DC motors.
